How we can help students:
The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, in partnership with the municipality and the local Small Business Enterprise Centre, celebrates the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of Simcoe County’s high school students by supporting the Secondary School Business Plan Competition. The competition is open to all high school students in Simcoe County, regardless of grade or area of study.
How Does It Work?
Students compete by researching and writing a business plan which is then submitted to the Greater Barrie Business Enterprise Centre for evaluation. 12 finalists are honoured at an annual awards banquet where the winners are announced and awarded prizes donated from community sponsors.
Many different business ideas have been presented in submitted business plans over the years, including highly technical to creative arts and everything in between. Judged by an independent panel consisting of educators, business professionals, bankers, successful young entrepreneurs and other professionals using a standard score sheet, the marks are then tallied and the winners chosen.
This is a great opportunity for high school students to show their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. Even if your plan doesn't win, you get invaluable feedback from business professionals on the viability of your business plan. Perhaps this can be the catalyst for making your business a reality in the future.
